Brendan Heneghan

Co-opted Governor

Hello, my name is Brendan. I have been a Governor at Ravenscliffe since 2017 and have been Co-Chair of the Governing Body with Jill since 2022. I spent my working life in schools, the majority of it in Special Education and over 20 years as Head Teacher.

My background is working with children with SEMH challenges and I have a particular interest in student behaviour, attainment and personal development and use this where I can to help. Ravenscliffe is a wonderful community and it is an honour to be a part of it.

David Peck

Co-opted Governor

I joined the governing board at Ravenscliffe in 1994 as a Parent Governor.  My son was a student at school. I thought I could use some of my knowledge that I had gained in my previous work to improve things. A new Headteacher started just after I became a governor, he had the vision to start and improve the school.

I was asked to stand as Chair of Governors 1996 as the previous chair was retiring, I held this position until 2019 when I stepped back to Deputy Chair. When I look back over my years at Ravenscliffe and the changes that have taken place, giving young people with SEN a chance to progress.

The school has been blessed by having outstanding Staff and a brilliant senior management team. My goal has always been to make sure that Ravenscliffe has the best environment for educating students with all types of disabilities.

Parent Governor

My name is Catherine and I’m a Parent Governor at Ravenscliffe. I am a teacher myself, and have mainly worked in nursery because I enjoy the creative and fun side of teaching in early years.

I really treasure my governor role, using my teaching skills and giving back to the school. I also volunteer in the Friends of Ravenscliffe charity, that raise additional funds to enhance the children’s experiences and learning at school.

Co-opted Governor - Lead Governor for Safeguarding

As a parent of a former pupil, I have a 20-year association with Ravenscliffe. I have been Co-Chair of the Governing Body since 2022.

I am passionate about curriculum development, and, through the Quality of Education committee, support and challenge staff to maintain the high standards of care and specialist provision that every student deserves.

I have worked as a GP for 40 years, which has given me skills and knowledge to support my additional role as Safeguarding Governor.

Ravenscliffe is a fantastic community, and it is a privilege to be part of it.

David Wells

Co-opted Governor

I have served as a Governor at Ravenscliffe High School since 2012, during which I have held the positions of Chair and Vice Chair of the Finance Committee. A particularly rewarding aspect of my time as Governor was my involvement with the Spring Hall project, from conception, planning and fundraising through to successful delivery.

As a solicitor and the owner of a legal practice, I am able to offer a range of skills and professional insight to support the School’s Governing Body and its Senior Leadership Team as required. My legal expertise assists in ensuring robust governance and effective decision-making across all areas.

It is a privilege to work alongside the dedicated Governors, staff and leadership at Ravenscliffe High School, and I am honoured to contribute to its continued excellence and success.

I am passionate about supporting colleagues and contributing to the continued success of the school, and I am proud to be part of the Ravenscliffe community.

Parent Governor

I am a Parent Governor and have been on the Governing body since 2019 and Chair of the Finance Committee since 2021.

As a qualified Chartered Accountant, I have a strong understanding of financial management and governance and I use my financial background to provide clear oversight of budgets, financial planning and risk management to help the governing body to make informed decisions that support the school’s long-term sustainability and ensure that funding is used effectively to meet the needs of our pupils.

I am very proud to be part of the school community and have seen firsthand how my son has thrived at Ravenscliffe, particularly as he has progressed into 6th Form and developed his independence skills, including work-based learning, which has helped build his confidence and prepared him for the next stage of his life.

Associate Governor

Having been the MP for Halifax for nearly 10 years, I became an Associate Governor at Ravenscliffe in 2025 when I stood down from Parliament.

My particular focus is supporting the school in its work with Calderdale Council and other key decision makers to ensure there are enough quality, special educational places for the children and young people in our area. It’s a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful team at Ravenscliffe.

I retired from teaching at Ravenscliffe in 2016 having been responsible for English and Communication, Teaching and Learning and the support and mentoring of Early Career Teachers. Since then I have worked on supply and for the past 5 years offered targeted support through reading intervention to small groups across both sites.

I joined the Governors in 2019, and later the Quality of Education Committee. I see my role as supporting the school in its continuing strive for improvement and to ensure that every student achieves their full potential in the nurturing, exciting and very happy environment that is Ravenscliffe.
