What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to schools to help improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils and reduce barriers to learning.

At Ravenscliffe High School, we use this funding to provide additional support, interventions and opportunities that help disadvantaged pupils thrive both in school and beyond.

Please note: Pupil Premium funding is only available for students in Years 7 to 11. Students in our sixth form are not included within the Pupil Premium funding arrangements; financial support may be available to these students via the school’s 16-19 bursary scheme (LINK).

What Are We Aiming to Achieve?

Our Pupil Premium Strategy is designed to reduce barriers to learning, participation and personal development.

Through the effective use of funding, we aim to ensure that disadvantaged pupils:

• Develop improved emotional wellbeing, self-regulation and positive behaviour.
• Strengthen their communication, independence and self-expression.
• Access enriching experiences, wider life opportunities and preparation for adulthood activities.
• Receive timely support to overcome barriers affecting attendance, engagement and participation in education.
• Make meaningful progress from their individual starting points through high-quality teaching, targeted support and reduced barriers to learning.

Pupil Premium Funding

For the 2026-27 academic year, Ravenscliffe High School received £127,730 in Pupil Premium funding.

Although funding is allocated based on the number of eligible pupils, it is not an individual budget for each child. Instead, funding is pooled and used to support whole-school strategies and interventions that benefit disadvantaged pupils across the school. These include therapeutic services, family support, behaviour support, staff training and enrichment opportunities.

Pupil Premium Plus (PP+)

Pupil Premium Plus provides additional funding for children who are looked after by a local authority or who have previously been looked after.

Unlike standard Pupil Premium funding, PP+ may be used to provide personalised support linked to an individual student’s needs and EHCP outcomes. To ensure fairness and consistency, an amount equivalent to the standard Pupil Premium allocation contributes towards the whole-school strategies that benefit all disadvantaged pupils, with the remaining funding used to support the individual pupil’s identified needs and outcomes.

Who Qualifies?

Schools receive Pupil Premium funding for pupils who:

• Are eligible for Targeted Free School Meals (FSM).
• Have been eligible for Targeted FSM at any point in the last six years.
• Are looked after by a local authority.
• Have previously been looked after through adoption, a Special Guardianship Order or a Child Arrangement Order.

Free School Meals (FSM)

From September 2026, all children in households receiving Universal Credit may be entitled to Free School Meals.

Children who qualify for Targeted FSM attract Pupil Premium funding for the school. Some children may qualify for Expanded FSM, which provides free school meals but does not attract Pupil Premium funding.

Registering for FSM helps ensure that eligible pupils receive the support available to them and enables the school to access additional Pupil Premium funding that supports disadvantaged pupils across Ravenscliffe High School.
