Science at Ravenscliffe

At Ravenscliffe High School Science promotes SMSC development, enabling learners to become more self-confident, responsible and independent, within their own parameters. It also helps to give learners the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead healthy lives and to become informed, active, responsible citizens. Learners are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing to the best of their ability, to the life of the school and the community. This is achieved through a variety of outcomes including:

Subject aims for Science are to ensure that all pupils:

• Develop a healthy curiosity about our universe and promote respect for the living and non-living.
• Acquire and develop the key knowledge that has been identified within each unit and across each year group.
• Expand on key scientific knowledge through practical experiences; using equipment, conducting experiments, building arguments and explaining concepts confidently.
• Ask questions and be curious about their surroundings and a love of science is nurtured through a whole school ethos and a varied science curriculum.
